About the DuPont Cup
The DuPont Cup Tournament
The DuPont Cup Golf Tournament is an annual three-day event for amateur players, played on three different golf courses over three days. The 2027 event will be played by six 8-player teams, competing in match play with three different playing formats. Teams compete for the pride of taking home the DuPont Cup, a 31-inch, 15-pound, metal trophy (shown in adjacent photo). This is an exclusive invite-only event, but one can request to be invited. Players who play in one year can earn an automatic invite to play the following year. The idea is to build a core group of players who are committed to playing year after year. The field will consist of 48 players in 2027.
Golf
The DuPont Cup Golf Tournament is played in Southern Nevada, and is scheduled for the first weekend of June each year. Three different courses are selected for play each year, so the tournament location will vary year by year. The golf tournament uses three different formats of team play. Round 1 is a two vs two in High-Low format. Round 2 is a two vs two best ball. Round 3 is individual vs individual. All three rounds are played in match play using each player's full handicap. Handicapped play levels the playing field and provides players of any skill level an equal chance against lower handicapped players. Therefore, anyone, regardless of playing ability, has an equal chance of winning in this tournament.
Trophies
The DuPont Cup Golf Tournament is a team event. Players compete for the ultimate prize, which is the DuPont Cup Trophy. Each winning team player also receives a First Place Team Trophy. There are also individual player trophies for the Most Valuable Player, Tournament Low-Net Player, Birdie Champion, Net Birdie Champion, Putting Champion, and Closet-to-the-Pin. The trophy shown is the David Ji, Most Valuable Player Trophy.
The 2027 DuPont Cup Experience
Tournament Kick-Off Party and Putt-Off
Normally the DuPont Cup uses a blind draft in order to build teams of relatively equal strength. Teams are drafted at a Draft Party about 2 weeks prior to the tournament. However, in 2027 we will be deviating from that format for one year. Instead, there will be six pre-determined teams of 8 players each. There will be a Washington State University Team made up of WSU Alumni, a Woman's Team made up of all-women players, a Tower-Industry Team made up of players from the cellular industry, an Out-of-State Team made up of players from 5 other states, a team called Clyde and Company made up of the Gallegos family and friends, and the remaining players that will form a team called the Orphans, since they don't belong to any other team. Instead of the Draft Party, there will be a Tournament Kick-Off Party two days prior to the tournament. Player match ups will be provided at the Tournament Kick Off Party. Food and beverages will be included. The 2027 Tournament Kick Off Party will be at Siena Golf Club on June 2, 2027. A putt-off contest will be held at the start of the party.
Three Rounds of Team Golf
The 2027 DuPont Cup Tournament is three rounds of match-play golf with three different forms of play - High-Low, Best Ball, and Individual vs. Individual. Three different rounds of golf are played on three different courses. In 2027 the tournament will be played at Reflection Bay Golf Club, Palm Valley Golf Course, and Aliante Golf Club. The tournament will take place June 4 through 6, 2027.
Putting Contest
The 2027 DuPont Cup Tournament will include a putting contest after Round 2.
Skins Game
The 2027 DuPont Cup Tournament will include a skins game. Players can choose to play one round, two rounds, or all three rounds. The skins game is optional, so players could choose not to play at all.
Clubhouse Open Bar
After Round 2, players are invited to gather at the Palm Valley Clubhouse where the DuPont Cup will host an open bar.
Awards Party
Immediately after the end of Round 3, the DuPont Cup will host an awards party at the Aliante Golf Club clubhouse. The Winning Team, Most-Valuable Player, Tournament Low-Net player, Birdie Champion, Net-Birdie Champion will be announced. Food and beverages are included.
Awards and Prizes
At the Awards party, trophies, gift cards, and medallions will be presented to the First-Place Team Members, the Most-Valuable Player, the Tournament Low-Net Player, the Birdie Champion, the Net-Birdie Champion, and the Putting Champion. Trophies are also awarded to each round's closest-to-pin winner. The tournament MVP is awarded the David Ji MVP trophy and the MVP belt. The MVP is also gifted free entry into the following year's tournament. In addition to crystal trophies, $200 PGA Store Gift Cards will be awarded to the Birdie Champion, the Net-Birdie Champion, and the Tournament Low-Net Player. Each closet-to-pin winner is awarded a $100 gift card from the PGA Store. $1000 cash is awarded for anyone scoring a Hole-in-One on any hole. Additional Hole-in-One prizes are available each day, as well. Any player winning the DuPont Cup Grand Slam wins a round of golf at Wynn Golf Course, or a round at each of Serket (formerly Rio Secco) and Cascata.
